I used one light but thought the background was cool and well enough lit so I chose to put my light behind her. I had to push my ISO to 1600 to get enough ambient light to fill around her but then it causes some blow out. My added light was a 580EX II full power shooting through an umbrella(from pretty far away, enough to hide an umbrella behind her). Might have needed more power from my light and less ambient. Tough color in these spaces, any tips on how to combat that? Other ideas on how to make this better?

These are lovely shots. I particularly like the first one - the grain gives it a timeless look.
ReplyDeleteAs for dealing with the color temperatures, I am reminded of the picture Joe took of cheerleaders getting ready in their locker room. (The Moment it Clicks) He went for the skin tones. To do that, he gelled his strobe with green and his lens with magenta (if I understood correctly) but said that now he would recommended using a white balance preset. Maybe someone here knows more about this.
Your skin tones in the second one look good on my monitor. There seems to be good detail in the dress and, though I can't tell at this resolution, in the white flowers.
Looks to me like you did good!

Makes black and white sound like a great option to me!
I think both images are beautiful. For me, they are both lit well, don't think I'd add more back (rim) light as the netting has plenty of glow in it. The colors look good, seem well optimized for her skin, with the bouquet only seeming a little muted but that's not where you want the eye to go anyway. That's a long way of saying great images (as usual).
