Yeah, I know. I said NEVER AGAIN. I said WORST JOB EVER. I said a lot of things.
Well, after being sweet-talked into shooting two weddings for friends last year, I've decided that it's not THAT bad after all. So I'm going to throw up a wedding website and 'test the waters.' I'm not going full-time with this, just a handful a year... but enough to help pay the bills and maybe help me get some better equipment.
Thinking about marketing myself as a 'boutique' wedding photographer but I hate that word. I need to figure out how to explain to potential customers that they're not going to get 'selective color effects' or 'soft focus' with me. I'll just lie and say that my camera doesn't do that. :o)
As always, critique and comments ENCOURAGED. Also encouraged are referrals. HA!

Congratulations!! I have great admiration for folks who do wedding photography.
ReplyDeleteFor description, you might consider emphasizing the story telling aspects of your pictures (photo journalism angle) and/or modern/hip (instead of dreamy/old fashioned).
Best of luck though I suspect you won't need it. I foresee your having to turn work away.

Nice pics, Karen. Never seen a wedding chapel - is it Jesus Christ the Walt Disney way? Here most churches are 1,000+ years old.
ReplyDeleteIn Europe photo journalist angled wedding photography is very popular right now. The fly on the wall kind, new angles, new poses, no "soft focus", b/w. If you supplement this style with trad portraits it might work out for you?
You can also let your images do the talking - "this is Karen Lenz style".
Wedding photography can be well paid and remember, money don't smell ...
Cheers, Bjarne
Well, Bjarne, I'm wondering what a wedding chapel looks like myself. Of the two weddings I did last year, one was lakeside and one was on the BALCONY of a BAR in LAS VEGAS.
ReplyDeleteAnd you don't want to do weddings because why? Karen these are great shots. Money talks, I'd give it a shot if i were you. Have you checked out http://www.realmacsoftware.com/rapidweaver/ for web development?
ReplyDeleteGood luck.
Fred
VERY nice work! You should definitely consider weddings. It can be really good money if you price your services right.
